SPA TOURISM IN BULGARIA
Bulgaria offers an extraordinary combination of factors providing perfect conditions for spa tourism, healing and recreation. The plenty of thermal waters, their variety and purity, the moderate-to-continental climate and the Mediterranean influence, as well as the national traditions in thermal water healing in Bulgaria, are prerequisites for an effective and complete use of the rich natural resources. THERMAL WATERS IN BULGARIA
Mineral waters are one of the most precious natural resources in Bulgaria. There are more than 500 hydrothermal sources having different temperature and mineral composition. A great numbers of mineral water are suitable for drinking. A great part of mineral springs in the country are to be found in the beautiful mountains of Rila, Stara Planina, the Rhodope mountains, while many thermo mineral and mud healing materials combine with the thalasso-therapeutic zone at our picturesque Black sea coast. Bulgaria’s mountain spa resorts are situated in Bansko and Pamporovo, combining skiing and spa pleasures.
CLIMATE
Considering the relatively small area of Bulgaria, its climate is very diverse: from moderate to transcontinental with Mediterranean influence from South and local Black Sea influence from East. Spa centers in Bulgaria are usually placed in mountain tourist resorts and some are at the seaside. In most of the healing centers there are all year round activities: disease prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.
THE BALNEOLOGICAL (SPA) TRADITION IN BULGARIA
Balneologic treatments has existed in Bulgaria since time immemorial. Balneologic healing places used to be located in close proximity to mineral springs at ancient shrines. The best Black-Sea spa centers are: Dobroudja Hotel at Albena resort, Ambassador Hotel at Golden Sand resort, Riviera Holiday Club, Sunny Day and Grand Hotel Varna at St. Constantine resort, Pomorie Hotel in the coastal town of Pomorie.
